Macomb County’s leading business advocate joins growing call for Congress to enact smart and consistent trade policies
LANSING, Michigan — Another prominent business group has joined the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance’s (MISTA) growing coalition urging Congress to enact smart, consistent trade policies that strengthen Michigan’s economy and reduce costs for families.
The Macomb County Chamber of Commerce is the leading advocate for small and large businesses throughout Macomb County, representing more than 1,000 businesses across 27 communities. As the oldest and largest chamber in the county, its mission is to strengthen the local economy by fostering a positive business climate, supporting economic development and encouraging collaboration throughout the business community.
“The Macomb County Chamber is committed to serving as a catalyst for economic growth and advocating for pro-business policies that help our members succeed,” said Kelley Lovati, the chamber’s president and CEO. “To accomplish this, we need stable and predictable trade policies that allow businesses to plan for the future and keep prices down, and that’s why we are proud to join the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance.”
The Macomb Chamber joins MISTA’s growing coalition of prominent Michigan business organizations representing retail, manufacturing, the auto sector, healthcare, agriculture, tourism and more:
Michigan Agri-Business Association
Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association
Midwest Independent Retailers Association
Michigan Osteopathic Association
Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce
Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance
Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce
Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce
Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce
Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber of Commerce
Membership in MISTA is growing as a solid 70% majority of Michigan voters said state and federal lawmakers should pursue a different trade policy that reduces tariffs and lowers costs for consumers, according to a recent EPIC-MRA poll of 600 active and likely voters.
“The Macomb County Chamber of Commerce is another important voice in our growing coalition calling for smart and consistent trade policies that can help Michigan’s economy thrive,” said Mark Fisk, a spokesman for MISTA. “Our recent statewide scientific poll found that Michiganders overwhelmingly believe they are paying the price for erratic tariffs and that Michigan needs Congress to step in and enact predictable trade policies.”
“The Macomb County Chamber of Commerce joins more than a dozen other members of our coalition calling on Congress to enact smart and consistent trade policies,” said
John Sellek, a MISTA spokesman. “This should send a strong signal to leaders in Michigan and Washington, D.C., that it is time for Congress to enact stable trade policies.”
