MISTA brings real stories to encourage members of Congress to take action on trade and tariff policy

LANSING, Mich. — As the focus moves to selecting who will represent our state in the next Congress, the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance (MISTA) is extending its advertising presence in key regions across the Great Lakes state to showcase the real-world ramifications for trade policy that is affecting our local businesses.

MISTA’s advocacy today includes video testimonial ads and billboards, highlighting the voices of small-business owners and farmers who are having trouble navigating economic uncertainty caused by erratic U.S. trade policies. MISTA is extending the run of its 30-second ad, “Michigan Needs Consistent Trade,” and plans to roll out new ads soon.

These testimonial spots are ultimately calls to action from Michiganders, asking Congress to support smart trade policy – including the extension of the United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA).

Michiganders attribute high prices for everything from gasoline to groceries to tariffs and the country’s uncertain trade policies, according to a poll of 600 voters in June.

“Heading into the fall, voters want to hear from those who will tackle the issue that matters most to them: the high cost of everything,” said MISTA spokesman Mark Fisk. “Potential elected officials from both parties need to understand that Michiganders want leaders who will work for smart and consistent trade policies to help bring down costs and create jobs, not the opposite.”

“New polling clearly shows voters understand and attribute higher costs to tariffs,” said John Sellek, a MISTA spokesman. “There are ramifications for supporting trade inconsistency over stability and we are looking forward to working with candidates from both parties to shore up our trade relationship with Canada and support smart tariff policies.”
