Long-awaited bridge to be important step forward in improving Michigan-Canada trade
LANSING, Michigan — The Michigan Smart Trade Alliance is applauding the recent announcement that the Gordie Howe Bridge will open on July 27, creating a critical, long-awaited trade route between Michigan and Ontario.
The upcoming bridge opening will further facilitate a generations-long trade relationship between Michigan and Ontario.
“We are enthused the Gordie Howe bridge will open to traffic by the end of the month,” said John Sellek, a MISTA spokesman. “This is a critical step in the right direction amid great uncertainty between the trade relationship with Michigan and Ontario. Beyond opening Gordie Howe, Michiganders need Congress to enact smart and stable trade policies that can promote a flourishing trade relationship with Canada that will benefit the entirety of our state.”
“The opening of the Gordie Howe bridge spanning the Detroit River is welcome news and is an important first step toward making trade between Michigan and Ontario more prosperous,” said MISTA spokesman Mark Fisk. “Beyond Gordie Howe, we need Michigan’s leaders to call on Congress to enact smart trade policies that allow businesses and farmers to plan for the future and lower prices for families.”
