Message on airplane banner by Michigan Smart Trade Alliance notes need for change in trade policies that work for Michigan businesses, farmers and families

DETROIT — Detroit Tigers fans at Friday’s home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals will see a message on a plane flying above Comerica Park calling out something they likely have felt in their own wallets: Tariffs Hurt Michigan.

The banner message, “TariffsHurtMI.com,” from the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance (MISTA) highlights the need for bipartisan discussion about smart trade policies that enable Michigan businesses to thrive, grow and lower costs for Michiganders.

“Just like we are hoping for a winning season for the Tigers, we want to see winning trade policies that are good for Michigan manufacturers, small businesses, farmers and families,” said John Sellek, a spokesman for the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance. “Our group’s message is simple: We want to spur a thoughtful bipartisan discussion about smart, consistent trade policy that works for Michigan.”

“We are excited to be part of opening day at Comerica Park because we believe our message calling for consistent policies is vital to helping Michigan’s businesses succeed long into the future,” said Mark Fisk, a spokesman for MISTA. “Across the state, manufacturers, small businesses and farmers are struggling, and families are paying more for everything, due to trade and tariff policies that yield uncertainty while driving up prices for everyone. There is no industry, no small business and no hardworking Michigander who can avoid the uptick in the cost of everyday goods as a result of the current trade environment.”
